An Olivetastic Event with Friday Food Club
Hello everyone, I thought you’d be interested to hear about a special food bloggers event we ran last Monday 3rd September at The Lounge, Balham. With the help of Friday Food Club, I hosted and catered the evening, showcasing the fantastic flavour and versatility of Spanish Olives in a range of dishes, both savoury and sweet.
We kick-started the festivities by welcoming guests (including Shelina Permalloo of Masterchef fame) with a glass of Fino sherry and a small taster of the simple, yet stylish olive marinades that I created exclusively for Olives from Spain earlier this summer [http://www.olivesfromspain.co.uk/eating-cooking/recipe-of-the-week/].
I demonstrated how easy it is to prepare the marinade recipes that, despite taking minimal effort, provide mouth-watering flavour. I proved that by using a range of ingredients, the marinade recipes work really well as a simple tapas dish, whether it's Spanish olives marinated in sweet pimentón, red onion and fennel seeds or a marinade of Spanish olives with sesame seeds, lemon juice and mint. Equally, they can be used to rejuvenate or update a main course.
Spanish wine complemented the dishes I’d prepared, from pan-fried sea bass with Spanish olives, Piquillo peppers and dry sherry to the classic tortilla with Spanish olives and chorizo. The evening ended with a glass of sweet Spanish dessert wine and Spanish olive chocolate truffles – delicioso!
I really hope all our guests enjoyed our informal, yet fun evening as much as I did and I’m looking forward to meeting more people at a range of Olives from Spain events taking place in the coming months.
Hasta pronto,
Omar Allibhoy
